Job Overview
The Land and Infrastructure Development Intern supports StrategyCorp’s government relations service line in shaping cities and towns by implementing land use planning policies and government relations strategies across Ontario. Working closely with our diverse team of planners, policy advisors, former Toronto City Hall staffers, and government relations professionals, you will assist our clients in navigating the political and planning systems of Ontario and British Columbia municipalities. Our portfolio of public, private, and non-profit sector clients require a broad range of planning advice and issues management including Official Plan/Zoning Bylaw/Site Plan Amendments, Minor Variance Applications, Community Benefits Negotiations, Community Engagement Strategies, Environmental Assessments, Waste Management, Transit Oriented Communities, Land Use Policy Development and Analysis, Strategic Planning and much more.
Key Responsibilities
Support in Land Use Policy Analysis & Commentary:
Help with understanding and summarizing municipal planning processes and priorities around employment lands, service infrastructure, and housing.Assisting in Proposing Land Use Strategies & Policies:
Contribute to the development of engagement plans for public and private clients, focusing on the inter-relationships of space, planning, policy, and politics.Municipal Affairs Assistance:
Support in advising municipal clients on intergovernmental communications, private sector trends, and planning services review.Assistance in Community & Municipal Engagement:
Assist in interactions with Municipal council members and planning staff to support land development project approvals.Client & Project Management Support:
Efficiently take notes during client meetings and help organize and maintain digital repositories of project files and data.Drafting and Preparing Materials:
Prepare initial drafts of presentation/written materials for senior StrategyCorp staff for client and government official interactions.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Academic background with an interest in land-use planning, municipal politics, or a related field.
- Ability to conduct comprehensive research on topics relevant to land and infrastructure development and Ontario municipalities.
- Capability to synthesize findings and present them in a clear format for internal review.
- Familiarity with public policy issues and political environments is advantageous.
- Strong time management skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
- Eagerness to learn about client business practices, and government/political staff interactions.
- Critical thinking skills and a willingness to contribute to team efforts.
- Competitive annual-based salary of CA$45,000.
